What's in a name?~

Today while talking with Bella, I called her Isabella. It is very rare for me to call her by her given name. Not really sure why and it is certainly not because I don’t love the name Isabella, but since she has come home we (more me than we) have given her many ‘nick-names’. More often than not the nick names are what I used.

So today after calling her Isabella she proceeded to tell me that I could not call her that.

Me: “I can’t call you Isabella?”
Bella: “no”
Me: “why”
Bella: “because that what other people call me”
Me: “okay, then what should I call you?”
Bella: “My special name”

Never quite knowing what to expect from her I hesitantly asked “what is your special name?”

Bella: “you know, Baby girl, Bella, Bella Mia, Pie (which is short for honey pie, sweetie pie, cutie pie), Boo, Bella Boo”

Me: “oh, one of your nick names” Bella: giving me one of her 'duh' looks "yes!"

I hope she will always want me to use my ‘special’ names for her~

That is awesome! While we were in Chicago Mae told her cousin Elizabeth she could call her "mae" but it did not stick. Eliz called her Mary Austin the whole time!

Sweet, sweet...

I'll look forward to catching up on some of your blog posts, since we're settling in a bit after our amazing trip to China. :-)

Thanks for visiting me. I have briefly looked through your blog and I must say your Bella is beautiful!

The picture of your husband and daughter on the beach is so sweet.

Isn't it funny the nicknames we come up with? We have several for our kids too. I think that no matter how old they get, they will never outgrow the special names.

I will definitely be stopping back to visit. Have a great day!

How sweet! I love the nick name "Bella Boo" We call Anna Grace "Boo Bear" or "Anna Boo" she only allows us to call her those names and Princess! lol

Michelle August 11, 2008 at 8:11 PM

How sweet! I love all of your nicknames for her.

We are having fun watching the Olympics. I thought we might have China, Russia & USA all on the stand last night for syncronized swimming, but someone knocked the US out. We are rooting for all three! (Of course, I am hoping US takes the Gold. But I'd love to see them all together on the podium.)

Krista, thanks for coming to visit me today, it was nice to "meet" you! Your blog is so sweet, and your daughter is beautiful. I love her name, too! Especially the nicknames. :)

Becki party of 5 August 11, 2008 at 9:51 PM

Love all the nicknames. We call Addison "Addie" so much now, that sometimes I"m surprised when I hear other people call her Addison!

Sharie August 11, 2008 at 10:19 PM

My niece was the same way until she hit 13, then she no longer wanted her mom to call her "Bunzers" in front of her friends. I think you've got some pretty safe nicknames though!

Stacey and Dewey August 11, 2008 at 11:24 PM

I'm the same way with the boys, they both have lots of nicknames that just I use.
I think its sweet Bella realizes that the names you use are names of love and mean more to her.
Happy Monday

a Tonggu Momma August 12, 2008 at 12:30 AM

Oh, how much shame can one woman (me) feel?!?!? You are KILLING me! Because - for some odd, strange reason - Bella Boo sounds SO MUCH BETTER than the Tongginator. It really does. (As I slink away in embarrassment...)

Nicole August 19, 2008 at 4:19 PM

Too cute! I call Gracie "Boo Bear" all the time. Isn't it funny how Mommies have so many terms of endearment?
