Have a look around~

Our breakfast nook (is that what it is called?)

There is so much in this little room I want to share with you~ I am hoping the photos I took will allow you to see everything.

As I have shared before, I love junkin' and much of what is in here is from thrift stores, consignment stores and salvage yards.

Okay lets not talk about the urns~ They look kind of twiggy, but I have no idea what to put in them right now. Last week they had magnolia branches in them. Once they became brittle I threw them out, stuck a few branches in them and that is how it has stayed.

So lets over look the urns, and move on to something else~

Like the columns, the wrought iron chairs , or the picture frame. All of which were found at local salvage yards.

I wanted to add something to the back corners of my 'nook' and the columns fit the bill. The urns (sorry, even I can't get away from them) finished it off.

The chairs were all piled up in a corner of a salvage yard. They were white with a bit of rust on them. I paid 5.00 for each of them. Took them home sprayed them black and have used them for years now. You can see the black has begun to chip away and the white is peeking through. which is a look I love. Over the years they have been recovered a half dozen times to suit my look. They are so functional~ and I got them for twenty dollars. How cool is that?

The frame is a favorite. Not because it is a spectacular frame but because the years have given it a nice patina. It has aged well and now it has found a perfect place to rest here on my hutch.

Let's move on to the chandelier~ It was bought at a second hand, consignment store. I made a chain 'snake' by taking a long piece of silk material sewing it into a tube and scrunching over the chain.

I so love English ironstone dishes. Very few of my dishes match because they were found at thrift stores. Sometimes I get lucky and can find 3 or 4 of the same style, but most of the time it is a lone dish or a plate. Because they are all the same color they work well together even without matching.

The cow that is sitting in front of the frame is my mother in laws soup tureen. It is quite unique.

Last thing I want to share is the message board (empty right now because I just finished tufting it). The frame once housed a mirror. The mirror broke. Instead of looking at it as seven years of bad luck, I saw it as a opportunity to make something that I had been wanting for some time.

Hope you liked the having a little peek into our home.

OK! I LOVE IT! Can I get you to come over here and decorate? Besides not having the time and money, it so hard to find things that I can pull together to make it look like THAT! You're amazing!

Hugs,

Ohilda

You did a great job with the chairs and I absolutely LOVE your white chandelier! SO beautiful! Oh, and I think branches and twigs make wonderful accessories!

Thank you also for visiting my blog, and for leaving me a comment on what I wrote about my friend Amy. It was really difficult for me to write something so very personal, and step out of my comfort zone like that! It's so much easier for me to say the light and fluffy stuff. Anyway, I really appreciate what you said, it means a lot! :)

Rebecca August 28, 2008 at 3:50 PM

Beautiful!! Thank you for sharing this room with us. :) I love the twigs, personally... I think they would be very cute decorated for the holidays (little hand-painted easter eggs for Easter, or tiny ornaments for Christmas). For everyday, what about some little silk flowers so the twigs look like they're budding?? Rambling... :) I love to decorate too, so I am loving these decorating posts!!!

I finally got to you! I didn't bring any of my blog addresses with me. How in the world do you even know 81 people to leave comments?! I used to be a big fish (with you)in our small pond together. Do you even know who I am anymore? Oh my goodness-this is too much! I'll just stick to my little adoption going on in another part of the world. I am so glad you remained safe during Faye! Enjoy your girls weekend! I almost didn't recognize your blog-I leave the country for a few days (ok-weeks...Months) and I miss so much!

Love you,

Wow, I LOVE this room! I can't believe you didn't mention that beautiful chandelier! That is gorgeous! I really love that cow soup tureen. I've seen those before and they were sooo expensive! What about putting big moss covered balls on top of your urns. You could buy styrofoam balls and glue on sheet moss. I think that would look great.

Amy from Texas September 19, 2008 at 12:47 AM

That is my favorite room too! You are giving me some good inspiration. Wonderful job. I love good flea market finds! Thanks for sharing.
